BLOG CRITIQUE

MY BLOG OF INTEREST

“The queen of all media”

As Paul Reynolds (BBC News ‘Bloggers: an army of irregulars’ – Reading 1 from 315 booklet) clearly highlights, the “blogsphere is a source of criticism” whereby not only political but most definitely celebrity and popular culture topics are discussed. The new age of blogging means that individuals worldwide are not only writing about themselves but they are also criticising and exposing issues relevant and of interest to the greater and wider community. Reynolds also highlights that the mainstream media needs to understand the stark influence that bloggers have on society and that they need to act back in the same fashion. Web 2.0 is taking over the digital world, with websites such as myspace.com, blooger.com and most definitely youtube.com allowing the consumer to create videos and post stories that they choose.

Julien Pain (Bloggers, thhe new heralds of free expression) emphasises the idea that “blogging is a powerful tool of freedom of expression that has enthused millions of ordinary people”. This is an important idea to note as no longer is society interested in what the big media companies have to say, they are turning to ordinary people just like them as a source of information. Pain calls this, “the passive consumers of information have become energetic participants in a new kind of journalism…by the people, for the people”.

He’s controversial, juicy, over-the-top and most definitely the most hated man in Hollywood, and that’s not even to mention his alluring and addictive web blog.

Perez Hilton’s famous internet blog has taken the world by storm and has most definitely rained on the parades of many Hollywood A-List stars. Perez tells it like it is, whether it’s poking a stick at the disgusting Pete Doherty and his former girlfriend Kate Moss, questioning Lindsay Lohan’s sanity or even commenting on the devastating state of the formerly loved Britney Spears whose life has absolutely spiralled out of control, with no help thanks to the paparazzi.

Perez has no problem with offending anyone and most certainly not the filthy rich celebutants whose lives we (the general public) have become apart of. He and his trusty laptop and pet poodle Mariel are stationed at a local coffee shop in Manhattan that Perez calls his office space where the blogging is brought to life. His favourite drink is a Viagra Martini, and his motto is, “I’m gay, but I’m not as big a slut as Paris”, now that’s definitely got to cause some controversy. Hilton’s blogs aren’t necessarily the most academic or inspiring for potential bloggers HOWEVER they are entertaining, juicy and addictive!!

Perezhilton.com is an internationally recognised blog and the endless pages of celebrity scrutiny are just as endearing and exciting as reading who weekly or any other tabloid magazine that over-analyses Hollywood royalty at its worst, broadcasting their flaws and also recognising their good side!! Perez doesn’t only comment on the funny, negative and juicy aspects of the glamorous lifestyle these individuals lead but he also comments on things that they do well and how their latest endeavours are travelling (when a single reaches no.1 or when a movie is a box office hit). His blog pages are filled with numerous advertisements which highlights the popularity of Perez and clearly establishes the idea that his website is a great big advertising agent as it is his primary business and source of revenue. Perez reviews many things from the movie industry to the music industry and then all the great juicy stuff like who’s getting it on with who and who is seen where and when. It’s great, I love getting my weekly fix from Perez!! Before perezhiltion.com I didn’t take an interest in bloggers and have since googled many others that have become of interest to me. Who ever thought that writing what you think and why on the internet could have become such a phenomenon?

Perez’s pages are very tasteless if I say so myself, they’re covered in different shades of pink and very diva looking that’s for sure. The stories and each of his entries are separated from one another to easily distinguish one from the other and are accompanied with the aid of images which he has added alterations to that suit his commentary. A blog such as perezhilton.com just goes to show the power and influence of the media and most definitely the addictive nature of the paparazzi industry which has most definitely sky rocketed in recent years. It’s so wrong yet so right at the same time…

until next time,

So much time, so many things to do!!

Plans for my ONE MONTH off!!!

So my break officially starts this afternoon at 1pm and I'm not only counting down the hours, but minutes and seconds too. It's been a great semester if I do say so myself, even though its been a tad stressful and chaotic to say the least...I've learnt that not only is it a necessity to be organised (especially with production and tough essays) but also i've realised that I'm really excited for what is to come next semester!!

Don't get me wrong, I'm over the moon that we've got this well deserved break looming upon us, so you know what that means...beach, going out, SLEEPING IN, more beach and some much needed R&R - shopping & pampering.

OK so the beach sounds great right, but it will be everything short of great with Sydney's weather the way it is now... Horrible, disgusting and depressing are only 3 ways that begin to describe the current situation, lets just HOPE that it gets better and fast!!

Relaxing, here I come...

xoxo Ange

p.s. i love you

They say that nothing lasts forever…sure! Money, an apartment, not even a job… but once you’ve found your other half I believe LOVE can last forever.

OK so I sound like a babbling, emotional young woman who just got out of a really romantic and sensitive movie, well guilty haha I did…

P.S. I love you was fabulous to say the least and it even came quite close to being as moving as the most notorious love movie that can make even the most emotionless person shed a tear, the Notebook.

I know this is a really girly topic to blog about but hear me out!

I’m sure that at one stage or another in your life you’ve felt what its like to be in love. That feeling of walking into a room knowing that you’re special someone is happy to see you. That feeling of being so upset and hurt about something that’s happened at work, school or even the usual domestic family issues and their there for you, ready and waiting to just listen. That feeling of constant butterflies in your stomach, being so excited to be at the same table or the same room as the person that you’re really into.

As Franklin P. Jones said, “Love doesn’t make the world go round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile”. If you haven’t felt that spark or experienced that romance and passion with someone else, don’t worry you will!! Being only young, I can tell you it’s the most fulfilling and secure, fun, daunting and amazing feeling all rolled into one massive ball of emotions. True love, and you know you have it once you’ve felt it, makes you smile, laugh and cry at the same time. It makes you do querky things that you wouldn’t usually do and most of all it just makes you feel happy.

Love is like a river, never ending as it flows, but gets greater with time…

I suggest that if your in the mood to release some tears and just purely cry about beautiful love stories that you check out my 3 all time favourite romantic movies… A Walk to Remember, The Notebook and the new addition to the list P.S. I love you… You will not be disappointed I assure you…

Until next time xoxo

MY Slice of Heaven!!

I've got my heart set on this summer Europe trip, that apart from handing in assessments and coming in to in search (wink) should be mind-blowing, fabulous and a heap of fun.

My family originates from the little European country that has a lot to offer...you guessed it, Croatia. I have traveled there many times and am the most excited that i have been yet! The Mediterranean cuisine, atmosphere oh and did i mention the food, to die for, arghhhhh (drool) as Homer would put it.

Just close your eyes (i know you can't in order to keep reading, but work with me here), so close your eyes and picture a beautiful beach, your own small piece of heaven, all you hear is the sound of birds chirping and the water softly crashing on shore, all you can feel is the cool summer breeze and ultimate European sun warming your slowly golden skin, and then you open your eyes...and all you can see is Sydney's traffic, all you can hear is the sound of beeping car horns and impatient commuters and all you can feel is your 16 degree air-conditioner blowing furiously to keep you cool, just waiting for the next opportunity you slip away and just dream...

Who am I kidding, screw all this relaxation and tranquility, theres going to be some crazyyyy parties overseas and some serious clubbing and beach time!!

enjoy and dream, it'll come to you one day...in the mean time just enjoy my dream haha...

until next time,

xoxo

STRIKE EIGHT - WAKE UP America!!!

Yes you read right, 8!!!! unbelievable huh!!

Sitting down indulging in my great breakfast this fine morning i was absolutely astonished to see that yet ANOTHER massacre has stunned the shores of the United States.

The OMAHA MASSACRE has left 8 innocent people dead and 5 wounded putting Americas "right to bear arms" legislation in absolute disgrace!! You'd think Bush would have woken up to himself by now and tried to amend and stop what the bloody hell is going on in the US. Reviving such horror of self-hated, loner lunatics gunning down several innocent people whilst in their tracks of self-destruction has occured once again.

Yesterday's massacre (December 6, 2007) at Westroad Mall in Omaha, Nebraska has left a nation is dismay. 19 year old gunman Robert Hawkins who was a fast food worker has shot people that he didn't even know for reasons unknown to the world.

The Daily telegraph this morning wrote Hawkins had left a note with his family saying that "he was sorry for everything, that he didn't want to be a burden any longer to anybody, that he loved his family and he loved all his friends". He continued to write in this emotionally driven letter that "He was a piece of shit all his life" and that now "he could be famous".

15 minutes of fame... is that all this lonely, self-deprived young man wanted?? It is sad to even put in the equation, but how can someones life be so bad that they feel the need to not only kill themselves but also sooo many other innocent people who were simply at the wrong place at the wrong time! It comes down to a question not only about right and wrong but what can the American wider community, especially Parliament do to stop something that is a reoccurring theme in Americas history?
All i know is that something needs to be done and pronto at that!!

How many more people need to die or be hurt innocently??
and
How many more people need to go on shooting rampages to get themselves heard or known??
....

HOW LONG will this go on for before something is done??

F.Y.I. --> you CANT push me around!! Move it or lose it!!!

I hate them!!!! They're all over the road, they're enormous, inconsiderate and are absolutely dominating the roads causing complete chaos and pandemonium!!

You guessed it, massive semi-trailer trucks and even normal trucks...

Parramatta Road, one of many, has got to be in the top 5 of Sydney's most hated roads. Just close your eyes and picture 3 narrow, scruffy, old, torn and totally ditched riven lanes that together call themselves Parramatta Rd.

As if the situation couldn't get any worse, the fabulous trucks of the road decide to make my life that bit more interesting. As i drive everyday on Parramatta Rd, I'm disgusted and horrified on the state of Sydney drivers. Ok so myself i'm no Craig Lowndes but i'm sure that i'm better than half, no wait, at least 3/4 of the drivers out there, and i'm only on my greens.

As soon as I ditch one pot hole another reappears instantly forcing my toleration levels at 7:30am to depreciate considerably. Not only are the roads bad but the massive trucks are BAD!! They not only take up their own lane but have the metal capacity to take to leaving me and other fellow sedan and 4wd drivers out on a limb.

No only do i hate how they CLEARLY HOG the roads, their manners could do with some sharpening..how hard is it to stick your hand up and say/ acknowledge a thankyou when you are let in when trying to merge for example? That goes for all drivers, truckies especially...

Ohh and lets not start on their speeding habits, no-one thinks your big clocking 200km on main roads!!

I'm sure June Dally Watkins could teach these truck drivers a few lessons or two...
